In search of personal growth, I decided to challenge myself to try new things and get out of my comfort zone. After a divorce, a lot of downs and rock bottoms, I had turned into a bit of a recluse. I was so focused on rising from the ashes and putting life back into place that I simply stopped making time for myself. I stopped doing things I thought were fun. I stopped going out and I stopped trying new things. No, I was not depressed but something was not right.

Why 30 days? Because it was a full month and I knew I had to commit myself to a number. If I just said that I was going to say “yes” to things without a goal and a number in mind, I knew I would have slacked off. Not only did I put a number to it but I also spread my challenge on social media to all of my friends. The goal was to have my friends hold me accountable and give me ideas as to what I should try. I wanted to learn new things, meet new people, spend time with my friends and kids, and have fun. So, I spent 30 days doing things I would most likely have said “no.” Trust me, this was a bold move but I was committed to attempt to live each day as if it were my last.

Personal growth is an amazing thing but you have to push yourself to grow. You can’t just sit there and wait for life to happen or for things to just come to you. You have to push yourself each day to become the person you want to be and to achieve the goals you have set for yourself. It takes work and it takes commitment. My 30 days of “yes” challenge wasn’t easy. In fact, it was very hard at times. Many days I just wanted to stay at home and continue doing what I was doing: a whole lot of nothing.

When I started this journey, I also re-started writing again. I had stopped writing, which, to me, was how I used to express myself in the best way possible. I wrote a little bit about my daily challenge and I also did a video. I was never comfortable being in front of a camera but I did it anyways. And do you know what? I got good at it.

I am sharing my story and my journey to hopefully inspire you and others to just go out and do what you have always wanted to do. You can’t achieve success without trying and pushing yourself. I hope you enjoy my journey and I hope you can share your stories with me.
