No condom? No sex!ย I find it a bit disturbing that in this day and age we still have to talk about the importance of protected sex. ย This should be a rule adopted by all of us regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, race, whatever other labels you want to include here. I used to think that unprotected sex was something that happened only with the younger generation… Well, not really. Don’t get me wrong, the fact that the U.S. is the country with the largest number of teenage pregnancies in the world is simply crazy to me. It doesn’t make sense at all.ย But let’s forget teenagers for a second and think of people in their late 20s all the way up to their 60s. Why in the world are you not having protected sex? Don’t you know any better?

Unless you are in a committed relationship and have a habit of getting tested on a regular basis, you should use condoms. I know some people will say it is not the same or that it feels like eating candy with a wrapper. Yeah, yeah, we’ve all heard these comments… Gettingย some sort of STD (Sexually Transmitted Disease) or getting pregnantย without really wanting to is way worse, don’t you think? So, once and for all, let’s adopt the following habits and respect ourselves and the partnersย we have sexย with:

1- Carry Condoms In Your Wallet

This applies to both males and females. Ladies, stop thinking that it’s a guy’s job to have condoms. It’s your body and your health so take 100% of the responsibility here. Gentlemen, if you do not have a condom, stop insisting and coming up with excuses and ways to get around it. It’s all about being prepared even if you are not planning on having sex. We all know how things happen and how great it is to be spontaneous and in the moment. However, if you don’t want the moment to be ruined, make sure to have at least one condom with you at all times. No arguments here.

2- Have A Stash At Home. Always.

So you already have that one condom in your wallet, which is awesome. But at home you should really have a box, at least. Again, this applies to men AND women. Don’t tell me you are embarrassed to go to the store and get some. Please, we are all adults here and sex is a part of life. Stop worrying about what others think. If something happens to you, do you think “they” will take care of you when you are sick or when you have a baby? Get over this and learn to have fun with it. Go condom shopping and find different sizes, colors, flavors, you name it. Sex is good. Sex is normal. We all do it so let’s make sure we do it right and safely.

3- Say “No”

I know saying “no” in all aspects of life is hard. But this is one those circumstances “no” should really mean “no.” Please, DO NOT accept having sex without protection. Semen can travel long distances and can live up to 24 hours or more so this concept of “pulling out” is not safe, even though a lot of people will insist that it is. Its not just semen, right? Any fluid, from exchange, from either the party, is cause for concern. It’s best to say “no” to a short period of pleasure than “yes” to health issues that can linger and/or last forever. Do not minimize the impact that certain diseases can have. Even with the advances of technology and medicine today, having a sexually transmitted disease can ruin your life. Worse, having an unplanned pregnancy can impact not only your life but the life of others around you and of the child, of course. Be smart and respect yourself. No condom? No sex! End of story.
