Up

Dear Deborah and Gerald,

No words can describe my gratitude for what you have done for me when I reached the lowest point in my life. After my divorce and after losing everything, including a place to live, you opened up your house to receive me. You barely knew who I was, but when my friend Milena told you guys my story, you were so quick to offer a helping hand. Had it not been for you guys, I would have been homeless. Funny how I asked all my so-called friends at the time for help and no one would have me over. You, on the other hand, without knowing who I was or where I came from, opened your house to me. Thank you for your kindness, generosity and friendship.

You both have a special place in my heart and I will never forget what you have done for me. You saved my life and my sanity then. I remember turning in the keys to my apartment and driving to your house crying my eyes out. All my posessions were in my car. I had sold most of my stuff and I only kept my personal belongings. That was one of the saddest days of my life. As I drove to your house I was scared and sad that I had to be separated from my kids. When I arrived at your house, you opened your arms and gave me the biggest hug. That was one of the most special and impactful memories I will ever have.

Thank you for opening the doors of your house and your heart to me. Thanks for allowing my kids to spend weekends there with me. Even though I was going through a lot, the memories I have are actually the best ones. Me and my kids all in one room sleeping together. Me and the kids going upstairs to have pancakes with you guys and your son Anthony. You were like family. You still are. I do not think I can say enough thank yous for all that you have done. I never knew people like you existed. I am so humbled and so grateful by your act of kindness and generosity. Above all, I am extremely happy to call you friends and to have you in my life.ย

Thank you for allowing me to live with you all for five months. During those five months I got myself together mentally, physically and spiritually and was able to land an amazing job at AT&T. I went from nothing to a situation I could never have dreamed of. Thank for being by my side, for your patience, encouragement, support and friendship. You have a special place in my heart.

With all my love and gratitude,

Simone
