A gratitude letter for Marcilene…

Dear Marci,

Thank you for being the first Brazilian friend I met when I arrived in the United States. We met in college back in 1998 when both of us were still in our freshman year. Thank you for being the person I could talk to and make sense of all that was happening when I got here. We clicked right away and you became my best friend.

Thank you for all the years of friendship, support, fun, listening, laughing and crying. Thank you for always being there for me during school and thanks for being in some of the same classes together. Having you there definitely made things a lot easier for me in that period of transition.

Thank you for growing with me, for teaching me and for learning from each other. We were almost inseparable. Thank you for giving me as much support as you could during my first divorce. Had it not been for your friendship I do not know how I would have made it through. Thank you for listening to me, for taking care of my kids when I had to work and for always being there when I needed something. I know we spent some time apart and, even though it was hard, at that time it was necessary. Now I am so grateful we are back together and we literally picked up from where we left off. It is actually better, I think.

Thank you for being patient and for understanding I needed my time. I am grateful we were able to respect each other and give each other space. We needed that. We have grown, matured and become a lot wiser. I love you and I am deeply grateful we are in touch again. Thank you for having me and kids over to celebrate the beginning of 2019. We definitely started the year off well.

Thank you for being in my life and for being patient with me. Thank you for loving me for who I am. You never judged me and you always accepted me for who I was. You know me inside and out. You actualy know me more than a lot of my family. You were like a sister to me. I love you and I cannot wait for what is about to come.

With all my love and gratitude,

Simone
