A gratitude letter for my long time friend Andre…

Dear Andre,

Thank you for being in my life for twenty-four years! I remeber the day we met in high school at Setor Oeste. You were the new kid who had just arrived in Brasilia from Recife. You had that cute accent and a beautiful smile. We clicked right away. From the minute we met we were inseparable. We were both 18 years old and we learned so much togther. Thank you for being my partner in crime, my best friend, the one who exposed me to the gay community and the one who has always been there to lift me up.

We have so much history together. I warms my heart to think about all we went through. We saw each other grow into adults. We saw each other through ups and downs, new relatonships and breakups. You tell me all the time I was the one who got you out of the closet when I introduced you to 109 Sul. At that time, I had no idea you were gay and, even if I did, I would not care. I just loved everything about you. Thank you for your energy, your smile, your positive attitude, your friendship and your kindness. Thank you for being a part of my life. I look back with nostalgia and good feelings.

Thank you for supporting my relationship with my first ex husband. You were always with us and, even though you did not speak that much English, David loved you. How could he not? Thank you to you and your mom for going out with me when I introduced David to my dad. Lord, that was an interesting evening. Thank you for being there for me. You know how my dad can be an iceberg. Thanks for breaking the ice.

Even being four thousand miles apart, our friendship remains strong and we still have a lot of fun together. You make me laugh and you tell me the truth in a way I need to hear. Thank you for being so authentic and down to earth. Yet, thank you for being so funny and for encouraging me to go out there and increase my sexual capital. I am working on that!

I love you so much and I cannot wait to see youagain. I cannot wait to give you the biggest hug and just spend time catching up. Time goes by but how we feel with each other remains the same. It is crazy and amazing. Thank you for being my incredible friend.

With all my love and gratitude!

Simone
